Rented homes will need smoke and carbon monoxide detectors.
Landlords will have until October this year to install working smoke and carbon monoxide alarms in their properties. The exact legalisation has not yet been issued but our understanding is the rules will apply for any new tenancy starting on or after the 1st October 2015.
It is hoped the new law will prevent up to 26 deaths and 670 injuries each year. Housing minister Brandon Lewis said “In 1988 just 8 per cent of homes had a smoke alarm installed – now it’s over 90 per cent.”
